Sound asleep club

Co-designing services & social change: [Thinkpublic, 2020.] Programme affiliations with: NHS, Carers UK, Cavernoma society, Joint Living, Claire House. As the Social and Visual Designer on this project, I helped to co-design and shape this service with end users across different charities and platforms. This involved a comprehensive user research process, competitor and opportunity mapping, creative strategy and concept development, production of promotional and on-demand content, and leading the art direction. I worked closely with the graphic designer and videographer to develop the promotional film and branding assets.

The challenge:
How can we help NHS frontline workers and wider communities deal with the anxiety, stress, isolation and sleepless nights Covid-19 lockdowns in the UK.

Our approach:
It’s well known there’s a close relationship between sleep and mental health. Living with a mental health problem can affect how well you sleep, and poor sleep can have a negative impact on your mental health.

We co-designed and developed the concept of a virtual sleep club to help people to feel part of a collective and unwind their minds at the end of the day. We worked with communities, well-being experts and a sleep scientist, to identify the best holistic practices to support relaxation and sleep; encouraging users to explore and discover the practices that worked for them.

This project went through many design iterations and sprints, using the live weekly classes to quickly test out new ideas and gain instant feedback from community members.

The outcome:
The Sound Asleep Club was officially launched in November 2020 providing a range of live online bedtime classes, on-demand videos and products designed to appeal to people that may not have experienced holistic practices before.

It has received support from the National Lottery Community Fund and has partnered with a range of charities and public sector organisations to provide access to bedtime classes and workshops.
